Wedding Gift: Movie Night Gift Basket

We went to a wedding this weekend where neither of us knew the couple very well, so I had to come up with a fun gift that anyone would love. How about a movie night gift basket? I found this cute ceramic bowl at a local craft store, filled it with microwave popcorn, movie theater candy and a gift card to a movie rental place. A little cello wrap and ribbon and tah dah... instant date night for the newlyweds!

4th of July Dress

Since July 4th falls on a Sunday this year, I decided to sew a dress for my little girl to wear to church and to the parade the next day. I went back to my favorite pattern, Simplicity #5695. I love this pattern because it is simple to sew, it has sleeves, and doesn't require buttons or a zipper.

I got the fabric at Joanns on sale for $1.99/yard. If you want to make this dress, you would need 1/2 yard blue, 1/2 yard red, and only 1/4 to 1/3 yard white. You would also need a package of small elastic.
And how about a matching hairstyle to go with it?

It's just puffy braids with red, white and blue elastics. Easy, fast, and very patriotic!

Raspberry Summer Dress

It's been a LONG time since the dollar fabric bins at Wal-Mart have had anything decent. But I got lucky a few weeks ago and scored this raspberry colored fabric with a small geometric print.

I knew it would be a perfect summer dress:

Here's a close-up of the bodice:

The whole dress cost $1.00 to make and it is now one of my daughter's favorites.
