High-Waters Transformed!

I was cleaning out a drawer the other day and found a pair of jeans I didn’t recognize. I don’t know if they are so old I just forgot about them or if someone gave them to me or what. But I tried them on and they fit perfectly… except that they were high-waters. Dang.

So I decided to cut them off into shorts in hopes that warmer weather will come my way sooner rather than later.

But what do I do with the denim I cut off? Hmm... I got to thinking…

I carefully cut up the side seams to open the fabric up. Then I laid one of my daughters already-made skirts on top to use as a pattern and cut the skirt shape, with the cute side seam running down the center of each skirt piece. I added a standard elastic waistband and tah-dah! A little girl’s denim skirt!
Yeah, there's a little bit of fraying on the bottom hem where it rubbed on the ground by whoever owned these jeans before me. But have you been to the mall lately?
So there you go. What once was a pair of too-short jeans is now transformed into shorts for me and a skirt for my little gal.

Inexpensive Valentines Day Decorations

Hello friends! Thought I’d share a little bit of inexpensive Valentines Day decorating inspiration with you all. I found the pink wagon at the thrift store for $1.50. It will be a toy again after Feb. 14th. But for now it holds pink and red stuff. If you haven’t been to Dollar Tree and bought some of their little sparkly hearts, you really should. They are so cute and can be used a thousand different ways. And there are 7 or 9 in each $1 package.

The red and white berries in my apothecary jar were Christmas garlands from Michaels… at 90% off, each strand was like 50 cents. Yee haw!

I made another table runner kind of like THIS Christmas one. Imagine that the apothecary jar is full of candy hearts...I’ll get it filled eventually. Got that jar for $2 at the thrift store, by the way.

Also check your local thrift stores for holiday decor.

Sometimes an ugly decoration...

... just needs a new coat of paint, glitter and a bow.

Happy Valentine's Day!

A Gift of Memories

I know Christmas is over, but this gift that I gave to my parents two years ago would be a great gift for many occasions---Valentine's Day or Mother's Day especially. While I was visiting the folks over the holidays, I took a few pictures.

I started with a clear paint can that you can find at any store that sells scrapbooking/craft supplies. (I bought mine with a coupon, of course.) Then I kept the decorating simple--just covered the can in paper and added some little embellishments.

A view of the lid.

The entire can is full of little notes from me and all my siblings recalling funny, special, silly, crazy memories from growing up. My parents said they had so much fun reading a new card each day and thinking about the memories. I'm sure any loved one would appreciate this gift. And it was very inexpensive to make. All it took was some time and pondering on the past.
