Dexter's Quiet Book

My nephew's first birthday is coming up, so I decided to make him a cloth quiet book. The first book I made was a PAIN IN THE REAR, but I was able to streamline the process this time around. I've also learned a ton since the first book, so it was definitely easier, although very time consuming. As always, if you have questions about how to do this, leave me a comment and I'll do my best to answer.

Front cover

First pages: includes a hand-stitched inscription on one side and a truck on the other side that has several different types of wheels to button on.

Second page: An airplane and boyish paper dolls.

The parachuter comes out of the airplane and the paper dolls are magnetic.

Middle page: A race track! The little car has to dodge a mud puddle, go through a bridge and stop at a stop sign before it can park in the garage pocket.

The bridge is made of felt so it can fold down when the book is closed.

Fourth page: a treasure chest complete with lock and key. Wouldn't it be fun to put fruit snacks in the pocket so that he has to open the chest to get the treat? This page also has a fishing game. The fish and pole are magnets and they all store in the boat pocket.

And last, but definitely not least, the face page. They're all felt and can store inside the checkerboard pocket.

Here's a side view. I just layed all the pages flat and sewed them right down the middle.

Hopefully my nephew has lots of fun with this book as he gets older!

Yard Sale Treasures

Anyone else having a fabulous yard sale summer? I've found some great stuff...
Two chunky silver candlesticks: 50 cents a piece. Should I leave them silver or paint them? I can't decide.

A tall wooden dresser (about 5'x2'): $5. Can't wait to refurbish this one! I'm thinking about painting it turquoise... hee hee.

A white board calendar: 75 cents.
Not to mention a ton of kid's clothes for dirt cheap.
Yeah, baby!!! I love summer!
