Boppy and New Baby

I made the Boppy pillow and the baby. Let's just say the Boppy was a lot less work. :)

Quick Spit Rag

Just a quick little project. I had several white hand towels that I used as spit rags with my daugther. This time around I decided to make them a little more interesting. I just added some leftover fabric from a man's button down shirt to the bottom edge. I even left the buttons! These are the best spit rags because the towel is really soft and absorbent.

Salt Water Taffy

I have always been intimidated by the thought of making homemade candy. It seems like a very technical endeavor...candy thermometers, specific temperatures and stirring times...I don't do well with details like that! But yesterday I was cleaning out the pantry and found a bottle of corn syrup. Since my hospital bag is packed, the house is clean and I'm sitting around waiting to go into labor, I figured why not. I took the plunge...and the results were DELICIOUS. Even if they aren't much to look at, you really should try making these some time!

1 cup sugar
2 TBSP. cornstarch
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
2 TBSP. butter
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. flavoring extract (I used vanilla because that was all I had on hand)
3-5 drops food coloring (I didn't use any)

In saucepan, mix sugar and cornstarch. Stir in corn syrup, water, butter, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture boils and sugar is completely dissolved. Continue cooking, without stirring, to 260 degrees or hard-ball stage. (This is the part I fudged a little. I just sort of guessed because I don't have a thermometer. It is a completely random happy accident that my candy turned out well!) Remove from heat. After boiling has ceased, stir in flavoring and coloring. Pour onto lightly greesed cookie sheet. Let stand until cool enough to handle. (Now here comes the fun part! It's like playing with Play Doh!)Grease hands and pull until it has a satin-like finish and light color. Cut into 1 inch pieces. Wrap in waxed paper. (I used plain old plastic wrap). Makes about 1 pound.

Hairbows

Ta-dah! Hairbows! Because I am expecting a baby literally any day now, I don't want to start any big projects (mostly because I don't want to have a messy craft table when my mom comes). So I decided to do a little project instead, and made some new hair bows for my daughter. There's a whole variety here. I just went through my ribbon and scrapbooking stash and tried different things. But the best thing is that they match specific outfits, unlike when I buy bows at the store and have one or two that don't match anything. Like always, leave me a comment if you have any questions!

Twins!

Tonight I'm going to a baby shower for a friend who just had twins--a boy and a girl. I made these little shoes for them. I just can't get over how sweet it is to have one set pink and one set blue. And if you think the shoes are sweet, the babies are even sweeter. Congratulations to their mommy!

Necktie Onesie

I've seen these little necktie onesies all over and today I finally got around to making one. It was super easy. I just fused the striped fabric to the onesie using Wonder Under and satin stitched around the edges. I think Little Brother will look so adorable wearing this!
